The IFR is a prestigious multinational naval event that showcases naval forces from various countries and is reviewed by the President of Indonesia.
Objectives of the International Fleet Review
Environmental Initiatives During IFR
The Indian Navy’s participation extends beyond military exercises. Crews will engage in community activities like city parades and environmental conservation efforts. They will release baby turtles, plant corals and mangroves, and participate in beach cleaning. These initiatives highlight the commitment to environmental stewardship and maritime cooperation.
Exercise Komodo 2025
Participation of Global Naval Forces
The 5th Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo features 38 countries and 19 foreign warships. This includes notable vessels such as the USS Dewey from the US Navy and ships from the Russian Pacific Fleet. The participation of both US and Russian naval forces signifies a rare instance of collaboration between these traditionally opposing powers.
Themes and Goals of Komodo 2025
The theme for Komodo 2025 is Maritime Partnership for Peace and Stability. This reflects a commitment to collective security and cooperation in maritime operations. The exercise also includes forums for naval officers to share experiences and ideas, culminating in the International Symposium on Maritime Security.
Historical Context of the Exercise
Komodo exercises have been conducted biennially since 2014, with interruptions in 2020 and 2022. The rationale for these exercises stems from Indonesia’s historical experiences with natural disasters, particularly the 2004 tsunami. Such exercises aim to enhance international collaboration in humanitarian assistance and disaster response.
