Exercise Dustlik 2025

The sixth edition of the India-Uzbekistan joint military exercise, Dustlik, commenced on April 16, 2025, at the Foreign Training Node in Pune. This annual event alternates between India and Uzbekistan. The exercise aims to enhance military cooperation and improve capabilities for joint operations in various terrains. It involves personnel from both the Indian Army and the Uzbekistan Army.

Overview of Dustlik

Dustlik means “friendship” in Uzbek. The exercise focuses on counter-terrorism operations in sub-conventional domains. This includes anti-insurgency and hybrid warfare tactics. The previous edition took place in Termez, Uzbekistan, in April 2024.

Participants and Structure

The Indian contingent consists of 60 personnel from the Jat Regiment and the Indian Air Force. The Uzbekistan contingent includes their army personnel. This year’s exercise features a battalion-level joint operations centre for continuous collaboration.

Thematic Focus

The theme for Dustlik 2025 is joint multi-domain sub-conventional operations. It addresses scenarios involving terrorist actions and territory capture. The exercise aims to improve response strategies and operational effectiveness.

Operational Activities

Key activities include conducting counter-terrorism missions. This involves raids, search-and-destroy operations, and population control measures. The exercise will also utilise air assets for neutralising terrorist threats.

Special Forces Involvement

Special forces from both nations will secure strategic locations such as helipads. This will facilitate further operations and ensure effective engagement in hostile environments.

Technological Integration

Drones will be deployed for reconnaissance and counter-unmanned aerial systems (UAS) measures. The Air Force will provide logistical support to sustain operations in challenging conditions.

Joint Tactical Drills

Tactical drills include establishing a Joint Command Post and intelligence centres. Other drills involve securing landing sites and conducting room intervention operations. These exercises enhance joint training and operational readiness.

Interoperability and Defence Cooperation

Dustlik aims to encourage interoperability between the two armies. It encourages the exchange of best practices in joint operations. This collaboration strengthens military ties and enhances defence cooperation.
