Airtel Becomes First Private Telecom to Provide Mobile Services in J&K Border Villages

Bharti Airtel has recently achieved a milestone by becoming the first private telecom company to provide mobile services in seven border villages of Jammu and Kashmir. This initiative enhances connectivity for remote areas and aligns with the Vibrant Village Programme, which aims to improve infrastructure in border regions.

Locations Served

The villages benefiting from this service are Kachhal, Balbir, Razdan Pass, Taya Top, Ustad, Kathi, and Cheema. These locations are situated in the Keran, Machhal, Tangdhar, Gurez, and Uri valley regions. The introduction of mobile services marks a very important step in connecting these remote communities to the rest of the country.

Infrastructure Development

To facilitate this connectivity, Airtel has established 15 mobile towers across the aforementioned regions. The deployment of these towers is crucial for improving communication for both local residents and soldiers stationed along the Line of Control. Enhanced network services contribute to better operational capabilities for the military and improved quality of life for civilians.

Partnership with Indian Army

Airtel has partnered with the Indian Army to further enhance network services in remote areas and military bases. This collaboration aims to ensure reliable communication channels in strategic locations, thereby strengthening both civilian and military connectivity.

Recent Connectivity Achievements

In addition to the border villages, Airtel has successfully provided connectivity in challenging terrains, including the Galwan River region and Daulat Beg Oldie. Daulat Beg Oldie is noted as India’s northernmost military post, denoting Airtel’s commitment to expanding its services in difficult-to-reach areas.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has announced plans for comprehensive telecom connectivity across the country by June 2025. This initiative is expected to bridge the communication gap in underserved regions, paving the way for greater accessibility and development nationwide.
